Being an Employer of Choice

WMHS strives to be an employer of choice so that we can retain our employees, as well as recruit new ones when needed.  Compensation is certainly important to employees, and WMHS is committed to providing competitive salaries.  Last fiscal year when our financial situation improved, we gave $1.4 million in bonuses to employees since no raise actions had been planned due to our projected financial loss for FY13.  We were able to include pay raises in the budget for FY14, and $2.5 million in raise actions became effective last month.

WMHS also is committed to offering a valuable benefits package as part of our total compensation.  Overall, benefits on average are equal to 22 to 30 percent of an employee’s salary.  More than $31 million went toward benefits for our full and part-time employees last year. The largest amount--$18 million--is for medical and prescription drug coverage.  Employees also have dental and vision coverage available.

Our pension plan, 403(b) program, and variety of insurance options help employees plan to the future. Paid-time off (PTO) is provided to full and part-time employees for holidays, personal time vacation, and personal or family illness.

WMHS also is committed to the well being of our employees.  We provide a free, on-site fitness center and our Win with Wellness initiatives focus on ways they can improve their health.  We also promote their professional growth.   Continuing education is available at no cost through a multitude of on-site classes and workshops, and tuition assistance is available for other educational opportunities and for college coursework.

We are meeting the challenges of healthcare change thanks to our employees, and we want them to know how valued they are.
